OVERLOCKING FROM BASICS TO WOW

Registration

  • Deposits will be taken for September and October 2023 only.

    This deposit will hold a place in the workshop until 29 February 2024, at which time the balance is due. If the balance is not paid by this date, you will forfeit your place and your deposit will be refunded, less a $50 administration fee.

    An invoice for the balance owing will be emailed to you on 15 February 2024.

SKILL LEVEL - all levels welcome

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION This 1-day class gives students a greater appreciation of their overlocker and allows them to continue using it at home confidently.  The kit provided includes a comprehensive workbook which gives you a reference to work with from home.

  • 3-thread and 4-thread overlocking
  • understanding tensions
  • understanding differential feed
  • flatlocking, ladder stitch, rolled hem
  • techniques for better results when stitching a circle
  • dealing with inside corners and outside corners
  • working with different fabrics
  • applications for rolled hem and decorative threads

KIT CONTENTS (provided by tutor):

  • comprehensive 26-page workbook
  • all fabric required to make samples
  • decorative threads

STUDENT SUPPLY LIST:

  • all accessories for machine
  • rolled hem plate (if required to stitch a rolled hem on your machine - applies mostly to older models)
  • spare needles appropriate for your machine
  • instruction manual
  • 4 spools good quality overlocking thread (ideally 4 different colours to help understand stitch formation)
  • scissors
  • pen

OVERLOCK MACHINE REQUIRED 
Please note that overlockers will not be available for hire.  You must provide your own machine or make your own arrangements for hire.
